What is laser tattoo removal?

Laser tattoo removal uses advanced Q-switch laser technology to safely and effectively remove tattoos. This technology works by delivering photoacoustic shockwaves to break up the pigment in tattoos into smaller fragments, which the body can then naturally absorb.

The Q-switch laser can target various tattoo colors, including black, blue, dark blue, dark green, brown, red, purple, and orange, without causing damage to the surrounding skin.

How do I prepare for laser hair removal?

To ensure the best results, follow these steps before your laser hair removal session:

  • Stay out of the sun and avoid tanning beds for at least 2 weeks before your treatment
  • Shave the area to be treated 24-48 hours before your appointment
  • Skip waxing and plucking
  • Refrain from using pain medications like Motrin®, Aleve®, or aspirin for 3-7 days prior to the treatment

You should also make sure your skin is free of lotions, oils, or deodorants on the day of your session.

What can I expect from laser tattoo removal?

Before your session, the DYnaSkin MedSpa team sets up a consultation to ensure laser tattoo removal is right for you. On the day of your treatment, the team cleans the area and may apply a cold compress to numb the skin. You may feel a snapping or tingling sensation as the laser breaks up the tattoo pigment.

Each session lasts only a few minutes, depending on the size and location of your tattoo. Afterward, you may experience redness, swelling, or minor discomfort, but it typically subsides quickly. Pinpoint bleeding can also occur.

You can wash the treated area normally, but it's important to apply an antibiotic ointment for one week to protect the skin. Over time, your body absorbs the broken-up ink, and the tattoo gradually fades.

How many laser tattoo removal treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed depends on factors like the size, color, and depth of your tattoo, as well as how your skin responds to the laser. Most people need 6-10 sessions to remove the tattoo fully.

The team spaces treatments about nine weeks apart to allow your body time to break down the ink between sessions. Keep in mind that some tattoos, especially those with darker colors or more intricate designs, may require additional sessions.
